About

Darren Buskirk is a Managing Director at Stax in our Chicago office. He has over a decade of consulting experience focused on supporting private equity investors in the healthcare ecosystem. He specializes in buy-side and sell-side commercial due diligence, as well as advising private and public organizations on business unit and corporate strategy. 

Darren has led more than 100 diligence engagements within the healthcare sector, with expertise in provider and HCIT assets. His provider experience includes PPM investments across specialties including emergency medicine, pediatrics, cardiology, and orthopedics, as well as retail health assets like physical therapy and urgent care. Additional areas of focus include behavioral health (e.g., SUD, ABA therapy) and non-physician providers including dental and optometry.   

Within HCIT, Darren’s expertise spans across providers and payer-focused solutions. Provider HCIT includes tech-enabled RCM, specialty PM/EMR, and provider operations (e.g., governance, risk, and compliance). Payer IT expertise ranges from core administrative processing systems (CAPS) to software utilized to optimize Medicare Advantage risk adjustment scores. 

Prior to joining Stax, Darren was most recently at McKinsey & Company supporting its Healthcare private equity practice. Darren started his career in private equity at American Capital.

He holds an M.B.A. from The Fuqua School of Business at Duke University and a B.S. in Finance from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Extracurricular

In his free time, Darren is a big fan of sports—When he isn't rooting for his Philadelphia sports teams (Eagles/Phillies), you'll likely find him attending his son's baseball games or cheering at his daughter's soccer games. That, or he's on the fairway playing golf.
